What exactly does holistic creative leadership mean?

Creative leaders go all in and they're not afraid of a messy process

Dictionary definitions first

Holistic – Emphasizing the importance of the whole and the interdependence of its parts. (The American heritage dictionary of the English language)

Creative – “Producing or using original and unusual ideas” from the Cambridge dictionary.

Leadership – “The practical skill of influencing or guiding others” from Wikipedia

How would you define these terms?

Holistic – I mean that about a person. A creative leader, in our case. Meaning that a person cannot be considered a leader only, but a whole human being. Body, mind, soul, and spirit. Then there are other people in a leader’s life, not only the professional team surrounding you at work but a life partner, a family, and friends.

Creative – This means original and critical thinking, collaborative thinking and projects, and driving innovative ideas forward in the face of risks and uncertainty or even adversity. Re-thinking conventions, re-thinking and evaluating one’s work and one’s profession in an effort to make things better.

Ken Robinson defined creativity as: “the process of having original ideas that have value.”

Seth Godin said: “Art is the human act of doing something that might not work and causing change to happen.”

Leadership – You’re a leader when you accept that role. In your job, in life, in your creative work. Leaders dare to push forward, inspire people to follow them, and make change happen. Leaders are courageous, generous, responsible, and accountable as I see them. Also, having a good sense of integrity can only be good for them and others.

So that’s how I see it. I love working with these courageous and generous people who move us all forward, inspire us with their spirit and ultimately change the world. Having the physical energy and the creative confidence to do that is not to be taken for granted. That’s where I usually come in—more on that in future posts.
